UPMC Enterprises, the commercialization arm of UPMC, has invested $20 million in Sempre Health, a digital health company that aims to boost medication adherence. Sempre Health utilizes SMS messaging to remind patients to take their medications and offers cost-saving incentives.
By partnering with health plans and life sciences, Sempre Health has been able to increase medication adherence 20 percent, as stated in a news release on September 13th. With this latest funding round, Sempre plans to expand its network of pharma manufacturers and health plans, as well as develop new products.
Anurati Mathur, the CEO of Sempre Health, expressed excitement over the new investors, stating, “Since our founding, we’ve remained focused on helping people afford and take their medications as prescribed. We are excited to work with investors representing every major stakeholder in the pharmaceutical value chain, who recognize the significance of Sempre’s approach and are committed to fundamentally changing how medications are accessed in the United States.”
Medication adherence is a critical factor in managing chronic conditions and preventing adverse health outcomes. However, studies have shown that nearly half of patients do not take their medications as prescribed. Sempre Health’s innovative approach aims to address this issue using digital tools and incentives to encourage patients to stay on track with their medication regimen.
