Spin Digital has partnered with Intel Corporation to unveil their latest innovation: a live 8K VVC/H.266 encoder. The new encoder will be showcased at the IBC 2023 trade show in Amsterdam.
The demonstration at the Spin Digital booth will feature live 8K 60-fps 10-bit HDR VVC encoding, streaming, and playback. This cutting-edge technology will be on display from September 15 to 18 at the Amsterdam RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The Spin Digital encoder, known as Spin Enc Live, incorporates advanced video compression algorithms specifically designed for VVC live encoding. The Versatile Video Coding (VVC)/H.266 codec improves the quality of video while reducing the bitrate compared to previous codecs such as HEVC. This enables the adoption of new 8K applications in internet streaming, broadcasting, and virtual reality experiences.
The encoder has been optimized for the latest 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, allowing for real-time 8K 60-fps 10-bit HDR VVC video encoding. It utilizes a scalable multithreading framework, SIMD optimizations for Intel AVX-512 instructions, and Intel DL Boost Vector Neural Network Instructions (VNNI). This results in high-quality video at low bitrates.
The CEO of Spin Digital, Dr. Mauricio Alvarez Mesa, highlights the opportunities that the Spin Enc Live encoder and Intel processors create. They enable previously unimaginable applications such as 8Kp60 VVC broadcasting, 8K high frame rate (HFR) HEVC live streaming for sports, and 8K live virtual reality in 3D stereoscopic format.
In addition to the onsite demonstration, a technical paper about the new encoder has been accepted for publication in the Proceedings of IBC 2023. The paper analyzes the capabilities of VVC for live applications and provides insights into the compression, quality, and performance of the real-time 8K VVC software encoder using 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors architecture.
To learn more about the 8K VVC live encoding, streaming, and playback technologies, attendees can visit the Spin Digital booth (1.B32) at the Amsterdam RAI. Meetings can also be arranged with Mauricio Alvarez Mesa, CEO of Spin Digital, and Ravindra Velhal, Director of Global Content Technology at Intel Corporation.
