Temple University’s Dental Students Benefit from New Digital Lab

Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry has opened a new state-of-the-art digital lab to provide high-tech training for dental students. With an investment of over $4 million, the lab features 30 digital stimulators that utilize haptic systems, offering virtual feedback to students as they practice dentistry techniques. The lab also includes simulators that allow students to work on 3D teeth, providing them with a realistic experience of drilling a tooth.

Amid Ismail, the dean of Kornberg School of Dentistry, emphasized the importance of digital dentistry in the field and the school’s commitment to staying on the cutting edge of technology. The lab serves as a model for dental education, offering students the opportunity to learn using the most contemporary technology available.

Geraldine Weinstein, the clinical professor and director of digital education and practice, highlighted the benefits of digital technology in teaching dental students. Scanners and the latest technology are used to fabricate crowns, dentures, and restorations, enabling students to better understand and learn through the use of software.

The new lab has been well-received the students, providing them with a realistic environment to apply what they have learned in their courses. Alex Donos, a third-year dental student, expressed his appreciation for the lab’s facilities, stating that it provides everything a student needs to practice before working on actual patients in clinics.

The opening of the digital lab coincides with the 160th anniversary of the Kornberg School, which has a history of using new instruments and developing new technologies. The lab’s advanced technology is expected to lead to more accurate and faster dental services, resulting in lower costs for patients. Ismail emphasized the school’s commitment to providing the best care for patients in North Philadelphia while also educating compassionate and competent dentists.

Overall, Temple University’s new digital lab is an important addition to dental education, allowing students to learn and practice using the latest digital technology. With its commitment to innovation and patient care, the Kornberg School of Dentistry continues to lead the way in dental education.
