Sega’s Hyenas to Have Closed Beta Test on PC

Sega’s upcoming game Hyenas, a wacky merch-stealing extraction shooter, is set to have a closed beta test on PC at the end of the month. The closed beta will start on August 31, and players can sign up for a chance to participate on the game’s Steam page.

Hyenas is described as a hero-based, multiplayer extraction shooter where players choose a Hyena character with unique weapons, abilities, and personalities. The objective is to form a crew of three and steal valuable Merch from themed ‘Plunderships’ returning to Mars from Earth.

The game’s development began in 2018 and is being developed Creative Assembly, known for their work on Alien: Isolation. The trailers for Hyenas showcase a light-hearted and silly take on the extraction shooter genre. Unique to this game is the ability to kill someone in order to steal a statue of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Despite the anticipation for the game, there are some uncertainties surrounding its business model. During a recent Q&A session, Sega executives were unable to provide details on the game’s business model, stating that they are currently making final adjustments. However, despite this uncertainty, Hyenas is scheduled to be released later this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
