Sony’s State of Play Reveals Upcoming PlayStation Games and Updates

The September 2023 State of Play presentation Sony Interactive Entertainment showcased a range of exciting announcements for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR2. Although primarily focused on third-party games, the event also provided new insights into Sony-published titles, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2.
One of the highlights of the presentation was the extended look at the VR mode for the highly anticipated Resident Evil 4 remake. The gameplay moments showcased demonstrated how Capcom has adapted the adventure for virtual reality. Additionally, Capcom announced a DLC titled “Separate Ways,” which follows the character Ada Wong. Both the VR mode and DLC are set to release later this year.
Helldivers 2, a cooperative sci-fi shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios, also received attention during the State of Play. A new trailer showcased extended gameplay of one of the missions and revealed the game’s release date: February 8, 2024. Helldivers 2 will be available on PS5 and PC.
Despite focusing mainly on third-party games, the presentation included a surprise trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Creative director Bryan Intihar provided a detailed overview of the upcoming game, highlighting new abilities, story elements, and PS5 tech-driven features. The trailer also showcased the various suits players can equip. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to launch on October 20, exclusively on PS5.
Other announcements during the State of Play included the release date reveal for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. This highly anticipated third-party PS5 exclusive is set to launch on February 29, 2024. The trailer provided a comprehensive look at the game, including characters, gameplay aspects like Chocobo riding and minigames, and hints at a lore-changing narrative.
Other games featured in the presentation included Ba Steps, Roblox, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord for PSVR2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ghostrunner 2, Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn, Honkai Star Rail, and Foamstars, which will have an Open Beta Party on PS5 between September 29 and October 1 ahead of its early 2024 launch.
