The Ministry of Communication and Informatics Pushes for Digital Transformation in Indonesia
2 min read
The Ministry of Communication and Informatics in Indonesia is utilizing the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) to accelerate the national digital transformation goal. This framework focuses on various aspects such as digital commerce, cross-border e-commerce, mobility of digital talents, cooperation and competition policies, and cybersecurity.
Communication and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi stated that Indonesia is currently prioritizing the improvement of infrastructure and connectivity to enhance network accessibility and affordability, regulations, and user device standards. He emphasized this during the “Digital Transformation Towards an Advanced Indonesia” seminar in Jakarta.
In addition to infrastructure development, Indonesia is also concentrating on innovation and attracting national investments in technology and artificial intelligence (AI). A particular area of priority investment is the creation of digital talents, which is delineated in three development programs at basic, advanced, and leader levels.
To effectively achieve the goal of digital transformation, the Ministry is advocating for the prompt establishment of regulations to govern digital practices. Minister Setiadi proposed the issuance of a presidential decree to form a cross-ministry and institution team that will oversee the orchestration of national digital transformation. This could be implemented through the creation of a committee for the acceleration of national digital transformation.
Minister Setiadi emphasized that digital governance must have a legal basis to ensure the success of the digital transformation vision. Digital transformation is supported four key aspects: digital infrastructure, digital governance, digital community, and digital economy.
To further drive digital transformation, the Ministry is developing the Digital Indonesia 2045 Vision Document and the National Digital Transformation Index. These initiatives aim to contribute and serve as references for formulating a roadmap to achieve the Advanced Indonesia 2045 vision.
