Blackmagic Design, known for their high-end digital-movie cameras and video editing software, has released a free and feature-packed app for shooting video on the iPhone. The new Camera app offers a user-friendly interface and provides creative control over various settings, such as frame rate, shutter speed, white balance, and ISO.
With the ability to shoot in both 16:9 and vertical aspect ratios, the app also allows users to shoot unobtrusively in 16:9 while holding the phone vertically. Advanced settings for monitoring, audio, camera setup, and recording can be accessed quickly through the settings tab, while the record tab offers control over video resolution and recording format.
Additionally, the Camera app supports Blackmagic Cloud, enabling collaboration and media sharing with video editors anywhere in the world. It seamlessly integrates with DaVinci Resolve, the popular video editing software from Blackmagic Design.
The app also provides features for reviewing, searching, and sorting clips, making it easier for users to manage their footage. Despite its complexity, the app takes up only 37MB of iPhone storage space.
Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, describes the new Camera app as “a truly revolutionary workflow for creating feature film quality content using an iPhone.” While it may have more features than the average hobist needs, serious videographers will be tempted to give it a try.
